Opening Raster Charts

MacENCx64 is compatible with raster format (RNC) charts. Copy or download the charts to your hard drive preferably to a folder in your home Documents folder. (See Managing Charts Overview section).   Before Raster Charts can be displayed, they must be added to the Chart Manager. Select from menu File -> Chart Manager. Select the Add Chart Folder button to add a folder to the chart list. Select the folder with the charts (.kap, .cap, .bap, or .nos/.geo files). Use Remove to unlist a selected folder. Select the twistie  triangle icon to the list the charts contained in the folder.

The SHOW column, provides a way to turn On or Off the display and indexing of installed charts. This allows you to install many charts but to limit only those needed for planning or navigation and improves application performance. Best practice: turn on only the charts you need now.

Raster charts overlay ENC cells if you have the view turned on and the area of display contains BOTH ENCs and RNCs. The Raster Chart menu item in the View menu toggles the display of raster charts. You can only set to Raster Chart in View if you are viewing a geographical area for which you have RNC chart coverage.

Scrolling away from an area where you have RNC chart coverage will turn off the Raster Chart View. You can turn this back on by scrolling the display area where you have charts. This is easier to see if you select Bounds in the View menu which will display a boundary of all charts installed and with Show turned On in Chart Manager.

The find entry field can be used to filter which charts are listed. Selecting the Names radio button lists only those charts that name match the criteria in the find entry field.

The Scroll To button will display the selected chart.

Double clicking on any chart name in the Chart Manager will display selected chart.

control clicking on the raster chart will display a context menu allowing manual selection of any raster chart that intersects with the viewed area. Those charts that are listed in a bold font contain the position where clicked. If a specific chart is selected and the view is scrolled such that the chart is no longer visible then Automatic chart selection will resume.

Borders on the View Objects menu will toggle display of the chart border on and off.
